Enjoy good music and community at Pijinuiskaq Park this summer.

Few things feel more like summer in Bridgewater than live music drifting across the LaHave River. Music on the Riverbank is a weekly outdoor concert series held at Pijinuiskaq Park in the heart of downtown, bringing residents and visitors together for evenings of open-air performances.

The series runs throughout the summer months, with shows taking place on Tuesday evenings. Guests are invited to bring a lawn chair or blanket, settle in along the river, and enjoy a rotating lineup of talented performers. Best of all, the concerts are free to attend.

Grab dinner or a drink from one of the many locally owned downtown spots before heading to the park and make a full evening of it.

Canada Day on the LaHave

Canada Day in Bridgewater is a full-day celebration that stretches from morning to evening, with activity happening across town. The heart of the festivities is usually along the LaHave River and at the Lunenburg County Lifestyle Centre, where a multicultural festival brings together music, dance, food, and family-friendly fun.

Expect live performances, cultural showcases, community games, vendors, food trucks, and activities for kids throughout the day. In past years there have been outdoor swims, sports tournaments, interactive events, and evening entertainment in the park. Downtown restaurants and cafés often buzz with extra energy, making it easy to turn July 1 into a full day out.

While specific programming for 2026 will be announced closer to the date, you can count on a welcoming atmosphere and a strong sense of community pride. Keep an eye on our events calendar for the full schedule as Canada Day approaches.

In past seasons, the lineup has included a mix of nostalgic favourites, family hits, and recent blockbusters, making it easy to plan a relaxed Friday night in town. A small canteen is typically on site, with proceeds supporting local youth programs, and downtown restaurants are just steps away if you want to grab dinner beforehand.

The 2026 schedule and movie titles will be announced closer to summer, so check our events calendar for updates. If you are visiting during July or August, this is a simple and memorable way to spend an evening by the river.

The South Shore Exhibition has been running since 1891!

For more than a century, the South Shore Exhibition has been a highlight of summer in Bridgewater. Held on 43 acres in town, this long-running agricultural fair blends rural tradition with classic midway fun and live entertainment.

Throughout the week, you can catch horse and ox pulls, livestock shows, 4-H competitions, arts and crafts displays, and a lively midway filled with rides and games. There is live music across the grounds, including main stage performances, along with a parade to kick things off and a dedicated Children’s Day packed with family-friendly activities. Food vendors line the property, serving everything from fair favourites to local specialties.

If you are visiting in late July, this is one event that captures the spirit of the South Shore in full swing. It is energetic, nostalgic, and built for all ages.

Concrete seating lines the park, many guests bring lawn chairs to set up along the wharf, and boaters often drift in to listen from the water.

Restaurants and cafés stay busy throughout the weekend, making it easy to grab dinner before the show or linger downtown after the final song.

At the centre of the festival is the Parade of Paddlers, a welcoming group paddle that typically begins and ends at Shipyards Landing. Canoes, kayaks, and stand-up paddleboards travel a gentle route along the river, creating a vibrant scene that is just as enjoyable for spectators watching from shore. In recent years, the festival has also included skill-building clinics and workshops designed to make paddling more accessible and inclusive.
